Sausage becomes the "Hot Dog" at Crufts

PAT DOG of the Year 2016-17 Sausage

After a close and very heartwarming competition, Sausage, a lovable Staffordshire Bull Terrier from Jersey, was named as the HiLife PAT Dog of the Year 2017. Sausage and his owner Angie competed against five other worthy finalists at the world’s biggest dog show, Crufts at the NEC in Birmingham.

Angie and Sausage were presented with a cheque for £500 and three months’ supply of HiLife goodies.

Following the announcement, Angie was overjoyed and told us: “My heart was racing when it got down to the last two, but it’s fantastic that Sausage won, I’m over the moon. I really wanted Sausage to enjoy it and he has, he loved the arena.

“I’m sure he will celebrate with a good run around the garden with his daughter. He’s a real stand out dog from a loveable breed that are sometimes misunderstood, but this shows their true temperament and love of people.”

Each week, Sausage visits St. Ewolds residential home bringing joy to the residents, they all have different needs and he spends time with all of them. If he senses that someone is having a bad day or has been ill, he makes sure he sits with them a little longer. He also works with people who suffer from phobias, helping one gentleman to overcome his fear of dogs.

Sausage also gave the audience at Crufts a treat when he performed his famous ‘sausage roll’ – something that is particularly popular with a 102-year-old lady he visits.

Big congratulations from us here at HiLife to all the dogs and their owners who made it to the final, they are all worthy winners and do amazing work every day.

Pets As Therapy is an independently funded charity with over 5,000 volunteers. Its registered PAT dogs provide animal assisted therapy and bring comfort, smiles and friendship to thousands of people every week.

As always we are extremely proud and privileged to sponsor such an amazing award and competition at Crufts, and work with all the dogs and owners that volunteer their time to this great cause. We absolutely love hearing their stories.
